The Real Ramona

Helen Hunt Jackson’s 1884 classic novel Ramona is based in part on tragic, true events that occurred in northern San Diego County. In a chapter from my book Stranger Than Fiction, I relate the story of the murder of Juan Diego, a Cahuilla Indian, by Sam Temple, a local rancher. Click below for the story:
